ܘܣܠܩ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܘܝܬܒ ܒܡܨܪܘܬ ܕܒܓܒܥܘܬ

When Saul had returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”

ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܗܦܟ ܫܐܘܠ ܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܚܘܝܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܨܪܘܬ ܕܒܓܒܥܘܬ
whw' dkd hpk sh'wl mn bthr plshthy' khwywhy w'mrw lh h' dwyd bmtsrwth dbgbewth
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.

ܘܕܒܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܬܠܬܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܓܒ̈ܝܐ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܙܠ ܠܡܒܥܝܗ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܠܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܥܠ ܐ̈ܦܝ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܕܝ̈ܨܐ
wdbr sh'wl thlth' 'lpyn gbr' gby' mn klh 'ysryl w'zl lmbeyh ldwyd wlgbrwhy el 'py Twr' ddyts'
He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were staying in the innermost parts of the cave.

ܘܐܬܐ ܠܡܪܒܥܐ ܕܥܢܐ ܕܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܬܡܢ ܐܝܬ ܡܥܪܬܐ ܘܥܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܡܥܪܬܐ ܘܕܡܟ ܬܡܢ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܒܫ̈ܦܘܠܝ ܡܥܪܬܐ ܝܬܒܝܢ
w'th' lmrbe' den' db'wrkh' wthmn 'yth merth' wel sh'wl lmerth' wdmk thmn wdwyd wgbrwhy bshpwly merth' ythbyn
David’s men said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܗܢܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܐ ܡܫܠܡ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܟ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܒܥܝܢܝ̈ܟ ܘܩܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܦܣܩ ܟܢܦܐ ܕܦܪܝܣܗ ܕܫܐܘܠ ܪܟܝܟܐܝܬ

Afterward, David’s heart struck him because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.

ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪܟܢ ܬܘܝܗܝ ܠܒܗ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܥܠ ܕܦܣܩ ܟܢܦܐ ܕܦܪܝܣܗ ܕܫܐܘܠ
wmn bthrkn thwyhy lbh ldwyd el dpsq knp' dprysh dsh'wl
He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܚܣ ܠܝ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܢ ܐܥܒܕ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܠܡܪܝ ܠܡܫܝܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܐܘܫܛ ܐܝܕܝ ܒܗ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܡܫܝܚܗ ܗܘ ܕܡܪܝܐ
w'mr dwyd lgbr' demh khs ly mn mry' 'n 'ebd pthgm' hn' lmry lmshykhh dmry' d'wshT 'ydy bh mTwl dmshykhh hw dmry'
So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

ܘܬܘܝ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܒܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܡܩܡ ܥܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܫܐܘܠ ܩܡ ܡܢ ܡܥܪܬܐ ܘܐܙܠ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ
wthwy dwyd lgbr' demh bml' hlyn wl' shbq 'nwn lmqm el sh'wl wsh'wl qm mn merth' w'zl b'wrkh'
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave and cried after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and showed respect.

ܘܩܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܟܢ ܘܢܦܩ ܡܢ ܡܥܪܬܐ ܘܩܪܐ ܒܬܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܐܬܦܢܝ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܒܣܬܪܗ ܘܢܦܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܥܠ ܐ̈ܦܘܗܝ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܣܓܕ
wqm dwyd mn bthrkn wnpq mn merth' wqr' bthr sh'wl w'mr mry mlk' w'thpny sh'wl lbsthrh wnpl dwyd el 'pwhy el 're' wsgd
David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words, saying, ‘Behold, David seeks to harm you’?

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܠܐ ܬܫܡܥ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܗܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܥ̇ܐ ܠܒܝܫܬܟ
w'mr dwyd lsh'wl l' thshme ml' d'nsh' d'mryn dh' dwyd be' lbyshthk
Behold, today your eyes have seen how Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you. I said, ‘I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is Yahweh’s anointed.’

ܗܐ ܚܙܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܕܐܫܠܡܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܒܡܥܪܬܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܝ ܠܡܩܛܠܟ ܘܚܣܬ ܥܠܝܟ ܘܐܡܪܬ ܠܐ ܐܘܫܛ ܐܝܕܝ ܒܡܪܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܫܝܚܗ ܗܘ ܕܡܪܝܐ

Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand. I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.

ܘܐܬܦܢܝ ܘܚܙܝ ܐܦ ܟܢܦܐ ܕܦܪܝܣܟ ܒܐܝܕܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܟܕ ܦܣܩܬ ܟܢܦܐ ܕܦܪܝܣܟ ܠܐ ܩܛܠܬܟ ܕܥ ܘܚܙܝ ܕܠܝܬ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܘܣܟܠܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܛܝܬ ܠܟ ܘܐܢܬ ܡܨܝܕ ܐܢܬ ܠܡܣܒ ܢܦܫܝ

May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me of you; but my hand will not be on you.

ܢܕܘܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܝܢܝ ܘܠܟ ܘܢܬܒܥܢܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܘܐܝܕܝ ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܒܟ
ndwn mry' byny wlk wnthbeny mry' b'ydyk w'ydy l' thhw' bk
As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness;’ but my hand will not be on you.

ܐܝܟ ܕܐܡܝܪ ܒܡܬ̈ܠܐ ܩܕܡ̈ܝܐ ܕܡܢ ܪܫܝܥܐ ܢܦܘܩ ܪܘܫܥܐ ܘܐܝܕܝ ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܒܟ
'yk d'myr bmthl' qdmy' dmn rshye' npwq rwshe' w'ydy l' thhw' bk
Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

ܒܬܪ ܡܢܘ ܢܦܩܬ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܒܬܪ ܡܢܘ ܪܕܦ ܐܢܬ ܒܬܪ ܟܠܒܐ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܒܬܪ ܦܘܪܬܥܢܐ ܚܕ
bthr mnw npqth mlk' d'ysryl wbthr mnw rdp 'nth bthr klb' myth' wbthr pwrthen' khd
May Yahweh therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”

ܢܗܘܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܝܢܐ ܘܢܕܘܢ ܒܝܢܝ ܘܠܟ ܘܢܚܙܐ ܘܢܕܘܢ ܕܝܢܝ ܘܢܬܒܥܢܝ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ
nhw' mry' dyn' wndwn byny wlk wnkhz' wndwn dyny wnthbeny b'ydyk
It came to pass, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is that your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice and wept.

ܘܟܕ ܓܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܡܐܡܪ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܐܘܠ ܩܠܟ ܗܘ ܗܢܐ ܒܪܝ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܪܝܡ ܫܐܘܠ ܩܠܗ ܘܒܟܐ
wkd gmr dwyd lm'mr ml' hlyn lsh'wl 'mr lh sh'wl qlk hw hn' bry dwyd w'rym sh'wl qlh wbk'
He said to David, “You are more righteous than I; for you have done good to me, whereas I have done evil to you.

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܙܕܝܩ ܐܢܬ ܡܢܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܢܬ ܦܪܥܬܢܝ ܛܒܬܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܦܪܥܬܟ ܒܝܫܬܐ
w'mr sh'wl ldwyd zdyq 'nth mny mTl d'nth prethny Tbth' w'n' prethk byshth'
You have declared today how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.

ܘܐܢܬ ܚܘܝܬ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܕܥܒܕܬ ܠܝ ܛܒܬܐ ܕܐܫܠܡܢܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܘܠܐ ܩܛܠܬܢܝ
w'nth khwyth ywmn' debdth ly Tbth' d'shlmny mry' b'ydyk wl' qTlthny
For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may Yahweh reward you good for that which you have done to me today.

ܘܟܕ ܢܫܟܚ ܓܒܪܐ ܠܒܥܠܕܒܒܗ ܘܢܫܕܪܝܘܗܝ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܛܒܬܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܢܦܪܥܝܘܗܝ ܛܒܬܐ ܢܦܪܥܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܛܒܬܐ ܚܠܦܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܕܥܒܕܬ ܠܝ
wkd nshkkh gbr' lbeldbbh wnshdrywhy b'wrkh' Tbth' mry' npreywhy Tbth' nprek mry' Tbth' khlpy ywmn' debdth ly
Now, behold, I know that you will surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.

ܘܗܫܐ ܗܐ ܝܕܥܬ ܕܡܡܠܟܘ ܡܡܠܟ ܐܢܬ ܘܡܬܩܝܡܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ
whsh' h' ydeth dmmlkw mmlk 'nth wmthqym' b'ydyk mlkwth' d'ysryl
Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”

ܝܡܝ ܠܝ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܬܘܒܕ ܙܪܥܝ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܘܒܕ ܫܡܝ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܒܝ

David swore to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

ܘܝܡܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܫܐܘܠ ܘܐܙܠ ܫܐܘܠ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܘܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܣܠܩܘ ܠܡܨܦܝܐ
